I just got the news as well. I was afraid it would happen, but after the last few messages from him I was a bit more hopeful that he might actually win this fight. Now I'm crushed.

That's very sad. I didn't know him, but I had heard he was struggling with a serious illness. As a writer, I was really rooting for him to stabilize or get better so that he could finish his magnum opus. That really hurts.
