Yeah, I called bullshit on that one about a month ago. I have a suspicion that the identity of those particles will have a much more terrestrial origin than what was presented, and BBC News already has a reputation for treating the rebuttals and retractions of such articles as "non-stories". If I'm wrong, I'll gladly eat these words raw, but there's that little thing about "extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence."

Yeah. It seems a little... well.

Maybe they were wiped out by aliens.

You're thinking of the dinosaurs. Between Predators, Cybermen, and Baldric's underpants, the poor dinosaurs didn't stand a chance, did they?

Explorer: Mammoth Mystery [TV-G Ratings N/A]
Monday, December 10, 2007, at 09P

Scientists have long debated one of the greatest mysteries of science: What caused the sudden mass extinction of mammoths 13,000 years ago? Now, Explorer: Mammoth Mystery gathers a team of investigators who may have found clues to why the mammoths, which reigned over the landscapes of North America for more than 1 million years, suddenly vanished. Could the clues point to the biggest cosmic impact humans have ever witnessed?

_______
This show focuses on a possible impact 13,000 years ago, but does mention the tusks as the starting point for their investigation coming up with the idea of the newer one.

Next they will be telling you the whale's closest cousin in the animal kingdom is the deer.

Oh... but they will.
