Via galleycat...
The Writer's Life is the same on every continent... and islands too.

Aptly named mystery writer R.N. Morris discussed his work schedule with a cat.

Really? This is what it's like? No staff attending to your every need and whim? When writers blog that they are going off somewhere undisclosed to write or work out a tricky bit in a novel in progress I always picture them in some lovely open air cottage in the Keys, with a full staff and all the silence they need and here it appears I am sadly mistaken.

I wish my cat would do that. Of course the dribbling might become annoying.

Oh, that is lovely: thank you for posting it. It's all too regular, too.
I have The Cat Muse (aka Mooncat). She likes to sit between my keyboard and the monitor, alternately washing my fingers and patting the cursor. She's convinced it's inspirational and nothing I say can dissuade her. (she's going to want a salary next.)

Jeez, why's he moaning? The cat isn't sitting on his work, is it? I can't even write by hand because Minnow comes and lays across my work and uses my left wrist as a pillow.

<> I wish one of my cats would lie on my shoulder like that, but they're all too restless (and heavy, in Min's case).

Hee! I wonder if that first agrarian who brought a cat into the house to manage the mice had any clue what they were letting the human race in for?

Actually, what almost certainly happened was that the cat moved in without being asked. <g>

Which explains so much . . . .

Discover who's at the top of the food chain - and then get them to feed you. Brilliant.

Oh lord, that was funny. Slight change in dialogue, with variations for theme, and this is my life.

"Get off my arm."
"I can't type with you on my arm, move."
"Get. Off. My. Arm."
"Move!"

Because lying on my lap would be warm and simple, and we can't have that...

I watched the first in the series (an introduction to The Writer's desk) and got a kick out of his hopes that the coffee pot he's carefully placed close to the keyboard, will write the book.

"I think I need to buy a new coffee pot. This one's not working..."

That cat is made of awesome.

Annoying awesome, but awesome all the same.

This is Cat vs. Monkey: The Beckett Version, isn't it?

Writer: Will you -- will you get OFF me?

{They do not move.}

Oh, it's quite simple, really. It's a cat muse that's purring plot bunnies into his ear.

Mine just want attention. MRRWOWR MRRROWR MRRROWR until I say something to them or fuss them. They are ACTIVE annoyances.

we loves them anyways, doesn't we...? {sigh}

TOR LOVES YOU!!! (:
Nothing to do with this post, but Tor's featured email-list story for this week is, "The Girl Who Sang Rose Madder", by some unknown hack... (:

Ha, I bopped over just to post that. I've saved it and will be taking it with me to lunch. :3

(Lovely video, too. I need an Inspirational Cat.)

Strangely enough, I found out about that a while back, when they paid me for it. ;-)

Yeah, I figured, but it's always nice to know when they're promoting you, especially when it's so prominent. Plus, I thought your billions of fans on here that aren't also subscribed to Tor's email list might like to know, too. (:

"Elizabeth Bear is a phenomenon, one of the great new talents of modern fantasy and SF. Since her first appearance in professional print in 2003, she has published eleven solo novels (Hammered, Scardown, Worldwired, Blood and Iron, Whiskey and Water, Ink and Steel, Hell and Earth, Dust, Carnival, New Amsterdam, and Undertow), one novel in collaboration with Sarah Monette (A Companion to Wolves), and a story collection (The Chains You Refuse). A twelfth solo novel, All the Windwracked Stars, is forthcoming in November; in a starred review, Publishers Weekly hailed it as “rewarding and compelling.” She has worked as a reporter, a typesetter, and a stablehand. She won the John W. Campbell Award for Best New Writer in 2005, and just last month her story “Tideline” won the Hugo Award for best short story of the year."

Hardly terrifying... (:
