I still never need to eat again.

A couple of photos from climbing yesterday:

20090406 003

Steven found a nest of baby birds near where we rigged a 5.9. I took this with the zoom setting, standing on a nearby boulder. Nests full of baby birds pulsate in unison. Who knew? It's very Lovecraftian.

20090406 006

Scenic Chatfield Hollow, rigged for top-rope. TBRE and The Jeff, for scale.

And because no post is complete without some gratuitous house pets, a Giant Ridiculous Dog and his pretty princess pony. (TBRE maintains he's a pretty princess. He does kind of mince like a sad cat when confronted with icky wet grass or mud. So she gave him a lavender unicorn.)

For catching wildlife visuals like that, digital zoom is absolutely a Gift among technologies. It's much easier to get a look without disturbing the residents these days.

Nest looks like cliff or barn swallows, can't tell for sure.

*is reduced to incoherence by cuteness of GRD with PPP*

It is really too bad nobody loves this dog or gives him scritches or pretty princess presents, is what.

baby birds - just WOW!

Rocks - are scenic. *yearns for some scenic rocks, might go to favorite park to look at rocks*

GRD - precious! Lavender unicorn - also precious! GRD /c LU - Precious overload!

Hee, hee! No dog that big should be able to look that cute -- but the GRD somehow manages. :)

Baby birds are among the more disturbing visuals nature affords. Before they get their feathers, hummingbird nests look like tiny nodules filled with beaked slugs.

It becomes comedic. Eventually, they grow too big to fit in the nest, but by then they've grown their feathers and look like birds, so it looks like an avian clown car, punctuated by feedings from the mother.

I...I think I have that same lavender unicorn plushie. Obviously not that exact one, because I would not make the GRD full of Sad by taking his plushie, but, uh...yeah.

I'm not sure if that's awesome or faintly embarrassing. (In my defense, at the time I really needed a lavender unicorn plushie.)

Don't be embarrassed! You don't walk around with yours in your mouth.

I love your dog. It's like a warm, fuzzy, mobile rug. Bonus! Puppy dog eyes!

I was going to say, "Aw, puppy!" but everyone else did.

But really. Aw, puppy!

A couple of months ago a person on my flist saved a baby bird who had falled from it's nest. When she described it, she said it was like touching a penis.

Ever since then I haven't looked at baby birds the same.

Ew. Very... bony... penises you have in those parts....

(I helped handraise a trio of cedar waxwings in 2002. They were very neat little critters.)
