And, I just gotta say: global climate change doubters? New England. Strawberries. In November.

That was my back yard this morning. I'm still getting salad out of it.

And now, back to Grail.

Yesterday I went to see [info]asakiyume somewhat west of here, and she had raspberries still going in her backyard! Delicious, but unexpected in November....

Our strawberries have all gone, but we have signs of spring here, namely catkins on the hazels. It's gone much colder though, so it looks like we're getting the seasons in a random order.

We once found strawberries in Munich on December 6th; it was admittedly a mild winter. But strawberries do what they want, and take every chance to get another one in on the course of nature. Persistent little buggers.-

It's not terribly unusual for June bearing strawberries to set again in late fall. It's actually been a rather cool season here in Michigan, but we noticed one of our neighbors' roses has decided to bloom. (Another plant that will flower a second time if it can.)

This particular plant has never quit. Roses, I'm used to--into December, sometimes. But this is a little extreme.

Everbearers. I just went to check mine, but the patch has been overrun with catnip. All part of the cats' devious plot.

My "favorite" part of the climage change issue is how it's sliding from "There's no change/There's change!" to "We're contributing/It's just a natural change!"

It's like you pull someone's head out of their butt only to find a smaller head up a smaller butt. Like those Russian dolls.

It doesn't MATTER if it's natural change. It still fucks us up.

(And when you consider the improvements in air quality caused by effects as small as the post 9-11 plane grounding, or the lessening in carbon production after the recent world economic issues... it becomes evident just how easy it is to do something about it. SRS NOW.)

What a perfect analogy! Except I'm not so sure the butt actually gets smaller. The head - or at least its contents - oh, yes.

Wild strawberries this late in the year? I keep meaning to transplant some from the local park over into a pot in my garden. Maybe they are hardier than I thought.

We're still picking ripe tomatoes from our outdoor plants. Which is weird for where we are at this time of year, too.

Coincidently we were just marveling yesterday about getting ripe strawberries this *early* in the year down here in the Southern hemisphere( usually it's December before they start getting ripe and cheap)...

Our seasons have started overlapping, very strange...

Is the microclimate in your back yard especially sheltered? If it is, can I convince you to plant some tuberoses?

It's not. It's also very shady. We are overhung by great big beech trees.

I'm in Cleveland, and the morning glories climbing up my porch supports were still green yesterday when we went to pull them down for the season. No flowers for the past week or so, but even to have green vines seems odd.
