criminal minds boom
While I was melting butter for the muffins (Chaz's blueberry muffin recipe, modified for orange-cranberry-walnut whole wheat muffins (1) (2)) the microwave attempted to immolate itself.

This is not a tragedy, as said microwave was left behind by the last inhabitants of this residence, and it's old enough that it has rotary dials and wood-grain.

But I am glad I didn't bother cleaning it today.

(1)If it's good with orange extract, it will be REALLY good with orange extract, Cointreau, orange juice, and bitter orange peel. Right?

(2) Yuppie wand blender is good for pulverising the cranberries into the yogurt. I thought they would be a bit much, whole.

(1) Of course right!

My ice cream lady gave me a sample of her new flavor, which is cardamom with lots of candied orange peel bits. It's good to be a regular with the ice cream lady.

Eeeeeeeeep. I thought only toaster ovens went in for self-immolation. But yeah, any appliance with fake wood grain is too old.

(Any appliance with actual wood veneer trim is a vintage collectible.)

Oooh, my family had one of those microwaves until three months ago, I think it was more than 25 years old, and they really are tenacious! Wood grain and all.

If by chance you are coming down to Philcon (by car), let me know. I have a spare microwave oven living in my basement and I'd be happy to pass it on to you so your muffins can continue to enjoy buttery bliss.

I still remember how to melt butter on a stovetop! By god!

(I consider it a little more counter space reclaimed, but TBRE may be invested in having a microwave.)
