spies avengers steed and peel needed

i'm just tired and i don't love you anymore

This is research for "Steel Monkey," believe it or not.

And an exercise in almost physically painful nostalgia. My god. I was... sixteen or seventeen. And one of my college boyfriends had hair just like John Linnell's, but darker and even more adorably floppy.

When I show you what else I looked up for research, I suspect you will understand why the video counts. Also, it's an amazingly beautiful photograph. I especially love the headless pigeon headdress.

The creepiest bit is that the song is so very thematically appropriate to the story. If I ever figure out what the story is about. I mean, I have the first line and the last line. Surely the rest of the narrative is implied?

I love his jawline. And the fly-stung horse headflip.

I wonder if all the boys who wanted to look like him realized how much he owed to Bowie and Byrne...

And how much Andrew Bird owes to the lot of 'em.
I also love that he made accordions cool.

I can't speak for *every* boy, but I knew it. At 16, I thought David Byrne was the coolest person on the planet. I didn't get into Bowie until college (my HS years coincided with his Tin Machine period).

*g* Who doesn't owe something to Bowie?
Whoever it is, it's not me.
The first woman I ever swooned over looked (to me, anyway) like the lovechild of David Bowie and Annie Lennox.
