This is fascinating. And so very, very true. What's hardest for us all, I think, is to believe, really believe, that other people are as real, as complex, as vulnerable, strong, messed up, tired, as we are. Everyone's a one-dimensional character until you get to know them better--including people who annoy you. Who mostly aren't doing it just to get up your nose, either.
And that tendency is magnified a thousand-fold when you're talking about anyone who leads a public life, like teachers and doctors and lawyers and rock stars and actors. And writers, of course.
