sf farscape d'argo's your daddy

darn that tea and oranges that come all the way from China, anyway.

2550 words on "Wind-Up Boogeyman" today, which bears a remarkable resemblance to a real pre-catastrophe wordcount.

Of course, that was all day's labor (minus a four-hour break for lunch with friends and some dinner prep and research time), but still. Three days of respectable wordcount in a row, leading to respectable progress on the story. I pretty much know enough about it to finish the draft, too, which is nice. And wonder of wonders, I'm enjoying the work. It's good to be working; it makes me feel like I'm doing something to justify my carbon footprint.

Research topics today include landfills, cadaver dogs, and the seating capacity and gas mileage of a Chevy Tahoe.

It's also nice to feel like I have adequate time to finish this, and not have to do nothing but work.

This year, I have learned that tight deadlines are bad for bears. Apparently, bears need some breathing room to do their best work.

So that's okay. I finish this draft soonish, and I try to figure out what the heck happens at the end of Bone & Jewel Creatures, and I try to finish up "The Tricks of London." And then I just have "Smoke & Mirrors" and half of "Lucky Day" and "Mongoose" to write the rest of the year, and Chill to finish.

Wow. This is feeling remarkably survivable. There can even be Days Off in there, between stories.

And so to bed, so I can get up tomorrow and finish this scene of "Wind-Up Boogeyman," and write the next one.

Short attention span theatre

Okay, I have a twitter account. Perhaps I can train myself to use that for the tiny pointless updates, rather than cluttering up the livejournal with three-line posts.

Like this one.

2313 words this morning, to complete two scenes and bring about a Horrific Realization. Pretty darned good, if I say so myself. I have about 9K on "Wind-Up Boogeyman" now, and it feels like the plot and the mystery are starting to chug along. And I'm still having fun writing it, which is really a nice change.

I feel like me again. Amazing what happens when you stop taking the crazy pills.

Brain chemistry: it's really troubling how easy it is to knock yourself out of whack and start feeling like a whole different person.

To-do for the rest of today:

Fill out and mail tax form
Eat something besides eggplant
Record thingy for Audible
Record thingy for Tor.com

Read stuff for stillnotbored
Climb
criminal minds reid eat

(no subject)

More signs that I am working again....

Lunch consists of:

a bowl of sliced radishes
two ears of corn
an english muffin
two steam buns and six pork vegetable wontons from the frozen section of the local Asian grocery.

Food? Don't trouble me with your demands for food, meatpuppet! I have Work To Do!

(At least we haven't hit the tinned soup, cereal, and stale toast stage yet.)
