Jerry Nelson, 1934-2012

muppetology floyd pepper groovy
The world is a less groovy place today. Floyd Pepper is dead.

He was also Aloysius Snuffleupagus, Count von Count, Dr. Julius Strangepork, Camilla the Chicken, and Kermit's nephew Robin.

Mourn him, O internets.

And Sherlock Hemlock.

And Gobo Fraggle

And Emmett Otter.

And... I think I left my pen in the loo...

Not Camilla the Chicken. It is just wrong that Camilla the Chicken is gone.

There are times I wish I believed in an afterlife, because I'd like to think that Jerry Nelson, Richard Hunt and Jim Henson are off somewhere putting on a hell of a show.

I love the idea of a Muppet Afterlife. And Jeffrey Moss (who wrote songs for Sesame Street) would be there to write lyrics.

Oof.

In gradeschool I was going to sing Halfway Down the Stairs for the talent show, but ended up doing something else, because I found I'd just burst into tears halfway through maybe 70% of the time.

I wrote a Snuffleupagus story last month, on a dare. That didn't mean I was done with him. *sigh*

Drat. I hate this. He was an artist and no mistake. I'm glad we've got all the Sesame Street shows and the Muppet movies to remember him by, and even gladder of the young people who have become puppeteers because of him and Henson.

But still.

Now we've lost Neil Armstrong, too. Serious bummer.
