A few years ago I saw a juvenile Cooper's hawk that had taken a pigeon too big for it. The hawk had ended up with the pigeon in its talons--by the feet. First the hawk got to be right-side up, then the pigeon struggled harder and got the upper position. Reverse repeatedly. I wasn't able to watch long enough to see whether the hawk won or gave up.
