can't sleep books will eat me

laying bait

Well, I just had the unsettling experience of getting 3000 words into a 4000-word story that's due Thursday and realizing that it's not going to be 4000 words. Guess it's back to the drawing board.

I've forgotten how to write short short stories. I was putting in white space as if it were a novel. I had better relearn the trick of density fast. Dear Bear: no transitions.

And that means I need a first lines meme. The idea here is that we post the first lines of unfinished stories, on the theory that we might then be inspired to finish a few...

So here's what's in the queueueueue currently...

Short Stories

Krissy paused in the wings stage left, in air thick with the smell of dust, imagining thunderous applause.

As the innate perversity of the universe would have it, Officer [Name] was up to her elbows in the guts of a roasted pumpkin as big as her chest when her pager shrilled.

!!! I am going to like this one, I can tell. =)

I can never decide if I love you or hate you for the first lines meme. On the one hand, they are always awesome. And shiny new Bearstories to look forward to!

On the other hand, they are always awesome. And I want to read them NOOOOW!

Tease. ;p
