You are awesome. You are also SO RIGHT about food and water during endurance events. They take on whole new levels of importance. One time I ended up biking about 15 miles more than I meant to, so I did 90 rather than 75. At about mile 85, I stopped at a McDonalds because they stocked calories, goddamit. I ordered a soda and fries and picked up some ketchup; I proceeded to inhale the soda and fries. When I had exactly 2 fries left I remembered the ketchup, and proceeded to eat it straight. It may have been the best thing I ate all day.
