me and a troll
I'm thirty-five years old, and I'm what I wanted to be when I grew up.

Well, yay!

In case you wondering:

I, Elizabeth Bear, do solemnly swear never to comment on an Amazon customer review. If I ever succumb to said stupid temptation you have my permission to force-feed me a mixture of the five vilest substances known to humanity: brie, champagne, brussels sprouts, limberger and spiced rum.

Per Justine, I invite all published writers to join me in this vow.

I already have people who have agreed to put me out of their misery should I ever even look to be reaching that point.

However, I actually like brie. Also good Champagne. Together, even, although not mixed together.

And happy birthday!

Thank you!

I can't stand them. There's something in both that tastes like motor oil to me.

*joins you in vow*

BTW--
Happy Birthday!

Please go here for a more fulsome statement of said wishes.

(I wasn't sure if I was on your list, since you have lately been inundated with people reading your journal!)

Very yay!

What do you want to be when you grow up more?

Woo hoo! Yay for happy endings. (Or happy middles.)

Happy birthday, and I agree -- no commenting at Amazon.

Man, I don't even argue with random feedback on smut I give away for free, I swear I don't.

I'd rather prove them fools.

(I've got my microphone right here. Shall I get back to you in forty years?)

I'll take the oath. However, those five substances don't sound vile to me at all . . . well, maybe brussels sprouts are kind of disgusting in a can-you-swallow-this-whole sort of way, but if they were smeared with brie and given a champagne chaser, I could eat 'em. This Medifast diet has made ANY solid food look fairly delectable.

The best way to respond to any zap-O review is, "Thank you for reading my book and for giving it so much thought! Not every book is for everyone, of course, and so I'm disappointed, but books feed different people different ways. Maybe next time."

I expect to see SO many funny exchanges on Amazon, though. And now the customer review sections will be taken even less seriously than they may have been in the past.

I think that vow is unnecessarily harsh. Maybe you could just swear not to comment on reviews of your own books?

Happy happy birthday!

(I had to delete the "Happy Birthday Bear," because all the punctuation in the world couldn't fix it.)

Obviously I am ill, because I'm thinking limberger and spiced rum... hmmm.

Happy birthday, EBear and many happy returns of the day!

If I should ever manage to have something listed in Amazon, and If I should ever go completely off the nut and even so much as think about replying to a comment, I'll just say these magic words to myself and all urge to comment will be gone: "Anne Rice."

Heh. The combination of licorice and /anything/ would send me screaming for the hills, so that'd work, in my case. (I mean, if I ever wanted to write anything in the first place.)

Happy birrrthday!

Happy birthday! I like brie, but my husband doesn't. I used to keep it around precisely because he wouldn't eat it, so it would always be there when I'd get a hankering for a late-night snack. The problem was, I was never able to come up with a variety of crackers that he wouldn't finish off while my back was turned. So I'd have brie, but nothing to eat it on.

I used to have a crazy-ass roomate who would swipe my food. So I started buying things she hated...

...she ate them anyway, to get back at me. *g*

Yeah, there's nothing worse than an author or a writer arguing with the readers/viewers about the work and the quality of the work. I've seen it once with a writer and numerous times with artists and none of it was pretty.

About the force-feeding, how about I eat and drink all that yummy stuff and then you can imagine what it would be like? *grin*
