there'll be icicles and birthday clothes and sometimes there'll be sorrow

We were promised snow, but again I have none.

I've been sleeping on my mattress on the floor (as opposed to on the bedframe) for three or four nights now, and the change is tremendous. My back is much improved. Obviously, I need a Really Big Piece Of Plywood.*

I turned off my alarms and slept in this morning, got up around eight feeling rested and in fact a little lazy, and am just settling down towork now. I think I am going to make tea and warm up some lemon spaghetti*** and construct a nest in the big chair and have a writing festival today, with a possible side trip to the gym after the mail comes.

I'd like to put some road behind me.

I'm really enjoying having some long uninterrupted stretches of time to myself. I have, I think, been over-peopled lately. It's so hard being an introvert with friends and a rewarding career. **

mattress on floor, wierd food, Tolkien, antisocial behavior... Hmmm... some hippies in your gene pool someplace...need MBA injectionas, obviously
Oh god no, anything but that.
We got snow. And then it melted. For this I moved North?

I too want to hermit away. Unfortunately, I have a meeting and a dinner and another meeting... argh. *sulks*
hermiting is good for the soul.

of course, so is society.

It's so hard being an introvert with friends and a rewarding career.

That is my problem with SF conventions. No matter how interested I am in the topic, and how pleased I am to see my friends, I need alone time to recuperate, which is in short supply.

Re: It's so hard being an introvert with friends and a rewarding career.

Yes.

I usually schedule a couple of "see nobody" days after, and an hour or so a day to lock myself in my room and surfthe internets.

Helps.

Re: It's so hard being an introvert with friends and a rewarding career.

I firmly believe that "con crud" is simply a code word for "peopled out: go the fkcu away or I will pretend to cough on you"

Normal folk don't often understand that when we're 'on' we're working, and working is, well, work. We don't scintillate at home, most of us.
Plywood, even thick plywood, warps within a few weeks, taking a permanent curve to conform to the underside of the mattress. Turning it over only works for a couple of days, after which the warp is reversed. (Personal experience!) Better long-term is to invest in the highest-quality, stiffest mattress and box-spring you can afford, or go with a good box spring with a simple futon-like thin mattress on top of that, for that "sleeping on the floor" feeling.
Calling it a "Really Big Piece Of Plywood" makes me think it belongs in a game of Munchkin.

And you tell me that I eat weird stuff! *g*
What's weird about that? Pasta, lemon butter, cheese.

Not that you particularly want this...

...But anytime someone gives me a recipe that sounds yummy, however inadvertently, I feel compelled to return the favor.

My favorite cheap and quick pasta dish:
somen (which my local Giant sells) or angel hair pasta
cracked black pepper
curry powder
parmesan

Cook pasta. Crack a whole hell of a lot of black pepper on top (or, y'know, less if you're sane), add enough curry powder to turn the whole dish a vibrant yellow, and cover with as much parmesan as you feel like. Eat.

Yum.

Sorry - felt like sharing. :D

Re: Not that you particularly want this...

mmmmmmmmmm

My favorite Quick Pasta

One half package any kind of pasta
One half tube of Italian Sausage, beef or appropriate amount of chicken
1 Can tomatoes
Chopped black olives (1/4 cup works okay, I just get the cans of prechopped and use half)
1/4 cup Olive Oil
Herbs to taste (generally I use basil, rosemary, garlic salt and lemon pepper)
Grated Cheese of most kinds

Prepare pasta & brown (or heat up, if precooked) meat
Heat up oil in a seperate pot with herbs until it starts to bubble
drain olives & tomatoes, toss into oil, and stir while cooking for about 3 minutes, then remove from heat
Drain pasta, toss meat & sauce until pasta is well coated, and sprinkle cheese on top.

I cook this at least once every ten days, serves two or three people nicely, and is now the official favorite Dish By Me of my boyfriend, my uncle, and the Starving Guitarist gang (3 of my boyfriend's guitar buddies that drop by about dinnertime sometimes). Can be endlessly variated upon in terms of seasoning, and just double the recipe for crowds of 5-8.
