sleep. now.

766 words written on "King Pole, Gallows Pole, Bottle Tree" this afternoon, which is more than it's seen since some time in October. Alas. It's all transition. I only have this one scene left to write, being the climactic battle, and I have no idea how to get my guys out of this.

If they get out at all.

I did figure out one thing today, at least, so that was a benefit. Tomorrow, I try to figure out another.

Next thing to do tonight is see how much exposition I can frontload into Ink & Steel to "make it stand alone better," as my editor requests. I suspect this is a futile endeavor, but I am game to try.

Man, I really do not feel like doing any of the revisions I have to do this winter. I am tired of these books, tired to the bone-weary bottom of my soul, and so freaking through with them that if I had married either one, I would be packing my overnight bag and heading to a friend's place. I've been working on both since 2002, and I'm not sure I can actually make either one better at this point: it's just rearranging the deck chairs on the Titantic.

Or, a little more cheerfully, maybe it's rearranging the deck chairs on the QEII, as I think they are both seaworthy books. I just can't imagine that the edits will actually make anything better.

Still, I am honor-bound to try.
