I just got a save 30% offer from Amazon on Shadows Over Baker Street.

Sometimes their "If you like--you might also like--" algorithms are downright creepy.

I see that adding you to my "Friends" list could get expensive. :)

Thanks for the head's up, though.

-- Mike, just in case you have no idea who this is.
Only if I sell more stories! *g*
Their algorithms must be pretty good. I found Jasper Fforde's The Eyre Affair because Amazon (UK) thoughtfully e-mailed me to tell me that the sequel to a book that I loved1, but which I hadn't actually bought from them, was now available. While I was happily on-line buying that, I spotted the "People who bought this also bought..." and I'm now hooked on another author.

1) Aberystwyth Mon Amour, which is as deeply weird as the title suggests.

Oh, their recommendations are excellent, generally--

--but I've never been recommended a book I'm *in* before.

Re: Oh, their recommendations are excellent, generally--

Doh! That one went straight over my head. (Memo to self: Keep up woman!)

But they obviously do have excellently tuned algorithms, they just need a small addition to the program to cross check name(s) of author(s) against the name of the potential purchaser.

Re: Oh, their recommendations are excellent, generally--

Yeah. I was very impressed....

Fantastic book

Even if I did get teased by my workmates for reading a book about Aberystwyth.

What I get for working in Swansea ;)

Re: Aber!!

I keep recommending it to anyone who doesn't run away fast enough. I was a student in Aber many years ago and I still live just 1 hour's drive away and visit a couple of times a year.

The Aber in the book is uncannily like, yet unlike the real place.

Re: Aber!!

::pouts a little::

Haven't been to Aber myself, but mi novio assures me that the book is rather like.

Definitely have to get there sometime when work allows
