Oh, thank you, thank you, thank you! I had no idea that was out there, and my life is improved for having it pointed out.
It's an ongoing podcast:

It is sort of yum.

Furiously leaches concerts.
Yeah. I know what I'm doing for the month of August.
Also Gogol Bordello and Mogwai and multiple Neko Case shows and... Oh dear. It's going to take some time to listen to all this.
And Iron and Wine. And the New Pornographers.

Oh dear.

Well, at least I can pretend I'm writing while I listen.
This makes me glad that I'm not one of those writers who can't write and listen to music at the same time.
I listened to this over and over a few days ago. It was great, and I should do it again -- there's writing to be done, and I want my Tom Waits!

...that Sleater-Kinney is awfully tempting, though...

AND Iron and Wine. Oh boy. I sense productivity slowly leeching away.

Andrew Bird! I may never get anything done again!
Grabbed that'un too. I'd never heard of the guy, then The Handsome Family opened for him in LA. Dude puts on a great stage show.

His audience made me feel very, very old though. There were about 4 other people at the show that were older than 25.
Hee. Well, I'm a fan, and I'm practically antique by those standards.
Yeah, I became pretty much an instant fan and I'm equally Jurassic.

He did a magnificent cover of one of the Handsome Family songs (The Giant of Illonois).
Spoon! Explosions in the Sky!

*abuses university bandwidth*
*snrch*

Okay, that's weird. well, I can attest to the Tom and the Andrew and the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, which is as far as I have gotten so far....
Also, they had to take the Iggy down.

*sad*
I was pretty tickled myself when I stumbled over Glitter and Doom up there -- for free. And it's not just a Tom Waits concert. It's a particularly good performance, I reckon: a great mix of his oldest stuff salted with some of the new -- with plenty of his weird asides thrown in just to keep it all surreal.

(In an unrelated note: Isn't it irritating that we can no longer say "stumbled upon" without conjuring up the fairly nifty webby channel changer browser of nearly the same name. It's nearly as bad as the long ago loss of motley crew to hair metal).

Yes. For free, and both of the other ones I've listened to so far have been particularly fine performances.

Methinks I have house-cleaning music for months to come. Life is good, and I love living in the future.

BTW, congrats about the other thing. *hug* *geek*
Yeah. We're pretty excited around here too.

And back on the music side, I'm trying to figure out "The Hold Steady." A friend is probably a little too close to being a groupie. She's actually traveled. (And they seem to be the darling of the music press).

They're on that concert list too. But I haven't quite cracked 'em yet.

q'est ce que "The Hold Steady"????
Ah. Only America's favorite bar band, apparently. Take a look: http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=6724051

Weird not to have heard of 'em, eh?

~Dave
Dude! Who knew?!
Hey, by the way, you been checking my LJ? There's stuff about San Diego... (Okay, maybe it's not all that exciting stuff, but one tries).

Soon, I'll be posting about the submarine!
I have been! I am sad to be missing all the big cons this year.

OTOH, my psyche and my bank account thank me....
I'm a little sad to miss the big World Con, but we're slowing way down just now. (For reasons).

I miss all the folks at these things. (Although I suppose one will be forced to miss you for different reasons altogether).

:)
*eyebrow waggle*

Didn't lead me enough?
Any minute now we will both be picked up by Fatherland Security. (And can one waggle eyebrows? If one isn't a sort of pre-twease Oppenheimer type, I mean?)
Just think of me as Leo G. Carroll.
Yeah. That dude never stubbed his toe in a dark room, did he...
