Seasteading.

The city of Novo Haven, on the horizon. So to speak.

In other news, I went for a six and a half mile walk today, and I'm working on actual fiction for the first time this month. "Smoke & Mirrors" now, A Reckoning of Men after dinner.

You have no idea how good this is for my cortisol levels.

Patri Friedman is patrissimo.

(I'm not a big seasteading fan, though--- "dynamic geography" is just warmed-over "Libertarians in Space".)

Beat me to it. My husband went to college with Patri (who is Milton Friedman's grandson, and, yes, an avowed Libertarian.)
Dang, you both beat me to it!

He's my older brother. It has been very weird to see "Patri's crazy ideas" (been talking about it for years and years now) become real news.
Dude. EVERYBODY is on the internet.
Yes, but it's slightly unsettling when it's people you've babysat for.
Seasteading: I know how this turns out.

-- Steve really enjoyed his tour of Rapture, but wouldn't want to live there.
Great, like the oceans don't have enough problems and human garbage floating in them already. It's not like we've actually run out of land for people to live on yet.
Yes, but if you live on land you have to deal with those pesky existing governments that expect you to follow their laws and stuff.
I have great confidence that this will be equally as practical and successful as all the other previous libertarian seasteading ideas.

But i shouldn't be so cynical. We need people to try and fail and try again at seasteading, as practice for trying and failing at colonizing space.
Somebody's gotta do the dirty work. I'm all for letting them go first.

I'll follow when law and order have been established.
Maybe they'll get farther than the Freedom Ship?
Gotta wonder where they plan to pull in for major repairs.
Also: pirates.

On the brighter side, Bear writing means joy for Bear readers.
i'm holding out for kon tiki city.
It's an interesting idea. I keep wondering where the money to build it would come from, though.
I was talking to someone about this; apparently some very wealthy dude is funding this venture; i think friedman may be the only employee?
