Is this displacement activity? Why, yes it is. *g*

In actual work-related stuff, I have discovered that "Smile" wants to be Smile, and that it may not be an Elizabeth Bear book. Which is to say, it's trying to go in a direction that I'm not sure falls under the same brand.

I wonder what will wind up happening with that.

Good luck with that...
That's interesting. I wonder what map it's using? Or is it looking back from the other side of the same one as you?
I'm afraid your metaphor isn't making any sense to me?

It's going to wander off and be all literary ghost story, I think. More like Beloved or Chris Barzak's stuff than something with an SFF sensibility.

But then, I have always been bad at clinging to subgenre.
It was a very bad metaphor: I think what I meant was whether the story was inverting itself at you in some way.
Literary ghost story sounds good, though. That's a space that feels at home in the genre, to me anyway. (I'm thinking of Jonathan Carroll and Nina Kirikki Hoffman.)

...I am intrigued and would like to subscribe to its newsletter.
Cool! Write it under a pseud and tell only your 4,592 closest friends. Or however many people read this these days.
Damned if I know. *g*
None of my business, but as a matter of business, another brand is a good idea. I have two, and am thinking of another one; Wishbass, Wishnevsky Strings and maybe Blues Dog.

On the guitar front, you have any idea what you want this to sound like? Jazz, rock, lead, rhythm?

The wood is very nice and curly.

Damn, complicated questions which I do not have the knowledge to even begin answering. What I know about electric guitars is... well, nothing.

:-P
punk or mellow? Don't worry, i'll just use a generic pickup, then if you ever get to a level where it makes a difference, you can swap out.

You better practice. I want you in the Rock Bottom Remainders toot sweet.
*g* Public performance? Figure the odds.
Nom de plume time!
By whom does it want to be?
When I figure that out, I'll be home!
don't use wishnevsky, there is a very bad author with that name... How about "Something MacDonald"
So, "Smile" is going to be what, a "pleasant diversion" or a "cozy light read" or something?
Kind of mainstreamish?
You could go the Iain Banks/Iain M. Banks route, using a subtly different version of your name for a different market.
As long as I can find it, I mostly don't care where in the bookstore it gets shelved. :-)

ditto

please.
I think my local bookstore shelves at random. One three-book series has one book in SF, one in Fantasy, and I haven't found the third yet.
