And the winner is... casacorona!

New radiator and thermostat.

Cheaper than a head gasket, anyway.

(It also needs new tires and the brakes checked and the headlight lenses descraped, so this may get a little spendy, but I knew all that was coming.)

Still cheaper than a car payment. :-P

(Gee, a new contract would be nice around now.)

Hey, did I argue? :-)
How does one get headlight lenses descraped?
A wet sand type mix of 2/3 baking soda and 1/3 coarse salt, applied with a cloth does wonders. If you're worried about corrosion, leave out the salt.
Huh. I didn't even know you could DO that.

I solved *my* scratched headlight lens problem with one of those post-like lane dividers on I-35 in Missouri. Well, the driver's side lens, anyway.
"Still cheaper than a car payment"

Really? My car payment for a 2008 Honda Civic is $250/mo for 3 years. Of course, I also paid 50% down. And I'd still be driving my old car if I hadn't moved cross country, not wanted to make the trip in the car with two small dogs in December, and discovered that shipping for the car was $4500.
Yeah, it's almost certainly more expensive this month. However, it's almost certainly cheaper this year.
Since I got it six years ago, I have put $650.00 into it.
People + cars = expensive :(

I'm glad to hear the old bank account didn't take too much of a hit :)
For a moment I parsed this as you buying casacorona a new radiator and thermostat. Which would be rather nice of you but was confusing.
Oh goody. Daughter #3 currently has the '98 Civic. Maybe green 2-door manual EXs are immune?
