Today, the Secret Word is apparently "cromulent."

Yesterday, it was a Phrase Of The Day, and it was "You made your bed, now you have to sleep in it."

I dunno, I just work here.

I've never understood that phrase. I mean, if I made the bed, the last thing I want to do is mess it up by lying in it. If I want to lie down, I want an unmade bed, then I won't feel badly about wrinkling the sheets. ;P
But why make the bed, when I'm only going to sleep in it again? ;)
Because a made bed is comfier than one that's all wrinkled up and full of crumbs!
Perhaps it's a shortened form of "you made up your bed"? Though usually when I make up a bed it's for guests...
It's a perfectly cromulent word.
Hmm. This morning, Lis looked at our cat Nora, who had found a blanket, and shaped it into a blanket-cave, and was lying it it looking completely adorable and cozy.

And she said, "Nora made her bed, and she's now lying in it."
I think the last time I said anything like yesterday's Phrase of the Day was just over five years ago when a friend asked me about my weekend. I'd spent at the IKEA in New Haven. As it turned out, the trip was slightly more eventful than your typical 5 hour round trip drive. By the time I got home, I was tired, but my bed was still in its flat pack boxes.
My grandmother used to use that phrase.

(and she had a great word too, which I love, "whompy-jawed" which means something out of place or messed up, as in "your collar is all whompy-jawed". (of course, I have no idea how to actually spell the thing...)
