i tell you what it's going to be like, though you can never hold my hand in public.

Ta-Nehisi Coates. Go read him.

This is the purest example of the injunction to breathe in anger, to breathe out compassion, that I have ever seen.

My God, he's good.

He's awesome. Saw him read in NY at one point. You should check out his book, The Beautiful Struggle.
That's a hell of an essay to read, especially on Yom Kippur. Thanks.
That's the second great post of his I've read this week, and a reminder that I have to put him on my list of morning reading.

Thanks.
Wow, that was powerful.
An excellent post. I was especially interested by one of his own comments (after one commenter does a nice bit on objectivism & "selfishness") wherin he says: "It's important to point out that no one is making me be compassionate. The dead are not in need of favors from me. No one of these women "needs" my forgiveness. Compassion isn't a Hallmark card, it's a tool for understanding something that I think about quite a bit."
Yes. This.
yes. i loved that too.
Beautifully true.
Good food for thought. I love the poem he linked to. It had me on the edge of tears.

Thanks for sharing this.
