Tonight on Shadow Unit, Danny and Nikki experience Grievous Bodily Harm.

And on that note, I have pumpkin pie, creme de violette and rum, and 300 pages of galleys to get through.

Aww, that was wonderful! Love Nikki's last line there! Okay, how long have y'all been wanting to use that line?
I sincerely hope that your 300 pp of galleys do not take 10,000 years.
Okay, given that you're the only person I know of other than myself to own creme de violette, I have to ask...

In I think it was Hell and Earth, you have a line about the language being nature-identical Elizabethan flavouring - is that phrasing from a bottle of Mickey Finn, or coincidence? :-)
It's from an old joke about Jolly Rancher candies and those perfect, tasteless supermarket strawberries.

Jolly Ranchers have "nature-identical" flavoring, which is of course nothing like nature intended.

And the strawberries are nature-identical strawberries. Because they sure as hell aren't real strawberries.
Ah....I'm not a hard candy person, so I'd never seen that on Jolly Ranchers. I'm actually kind of surprised that Mickey Finn got away with using it, then...

(It's definitely not real flavours, either - the bottle we tried was Sour Blueberry schnapps, IIRC, and it tasted like sour dishsoap, with a hint of vinegar. Mixed shockingly okay with Sprite, though.)
It's not original to Jolly Ranchers. It's a technical euphemism for artificial flavors.
Really? Huh...learn something every day.
For a subset of artificial flavours, to boot (it can be artificial without being nature-identical).
That is a good thing in the world.
It's always nice when everyone *once* in a while you give your characters a break from beating up on them!
Tonight on Shadow Unit, Danny and Nikki experience Grievous Bodily Harm.

And the readers experience Gleefulous Bodily Awwwwww.

(Clearly, I need a Nikki/Danny icon.)
And I have a bottle of riesling, chocolate-covered cherries, homemade snickerdoodles, and a reread of Blood and Iron. :)
