Thunderstorms last night and extra spicy Mongolian chicken & Rose Congou for breakfast. Say what you like, life could be worse.

I wonder what my Elizabethans would make of Chinese food. Damn, now that makes me wish I had a time machine.

I'm reading After You'd Gone by Maggie O'Farrell, on tanaise's recommendation. It's very good, and also does some neat things with POV. It reminds me a bit of Alan Brennert's book Kindred Spirits, but it's not as romancy on a long shot. Although there's a lot of false simultaneity in the first couple of pages, which I found myself tripping on. must... hang... up... editor... hat...

Which reminds me, I need to do the galleys for September today. After I get my words.

Banzai!

Reason for stopping: end of scene, and lunch, and a break, and maybe I'll tackle the next scene this afternoon.

It's sort of sad that Frank Zappa's music is still as relevant as it ever was. You'd like to think we'd have improved in the last forty-five years or so.

You can’t run a country
By a book of religion
Not by a heap
Or a lump or a smidgeon
Of foolish rules
Of ancient date
Designed to make
You all feel great
While you fold, spindle
And mutilate
Those unbelievers
From a neighboring state

More musings on music.

My father was a fisherman
my mama was a fisherman's friend
and I was born in the boredom and the chowder
So when I reached my prime
I left my home in the maritimes
headed down the turnpike for New England, sweet New England

Holes in my confidence
holes in the knees of my jeans
It's left without a penny in my pocket
Oo-o wee I's about as
destituted as a kid could be
And I wish I wore a ring
so I could hock it I'd like to hock it

So, if I can learn to develop character like that, I think I'm on to something.

I actually think--and I stole this concept from buymeaclue--that one can learn a hell of a lot about writing fiction from song lyrics. Not everything. But a lot.

And if ya gotta learn, you might as well enjoy it somewhat.

Okay, on to the next scene.
