*yawn*

My brain is nonfunctional today. I got 331 words on The Stratford Man, and I may start my poking at the leatherman story this afternoon. Unless I decide to take a nap.

I need to tell myself I'm entitled to have a day or two of R&R. Because I have really been working my butt off for the last ten days, and a girl can't do this to herself and expect to be any kind of useful. Also, my hands are in bad shape: I can't keep up this 4K a day pace and not brutalize myself.

It's cooling off nicely, finally. The Mojave is packing it in for another year.

I'm currently reading: Divine Intervention, Ken Wharton; Brothers in Arms, Lois Bujold; Look to Windward, Iain Banks; the first Sector General re-issue omnibus, James White; Gunpowder, Treason, and Plot, C. Northcote Parkinson; Faith & Treason, Antonia Fraser.

I did say I needed to read more science fiction than I have been. *g*

Oh, yeah, on the subject of marriage protection week?

I think I'll let Kit handle that one:

"Marriage is but a ceremonial toy;
If thou lovest me, think no more on it."

--Faustus, 2,1

Or maybe this one:

"Thou hast committed--"

"--fornication.
But that was in another country
And besides, the wench is dead."

--The Jew of Malta, 4,1

I have to say that, as a married person (to a member of the opposite sex, even) I find the government's invitation of itself into my relationship--as if that relationship were any of it's damn business--infantilizing, sanctimonious, and hypocritical.

Thanks, George. Maybe you should support the American family by having a little talk with your daughters about the dangers of underage drinking.

Progress

I am awarding myself 500 'virtual words' for a second draft on "Old Leatherwings." Which is now off to a couple of friends for a re-beta, to see if it maybe sucks less now.

And it's a lovely, perfect little 3K. Nice and shiny tight, and I think it manages some style and also manages a narrative.

So go me. *g*

Hmm. Maybe I don't hate it anymore.
