Once more the Sith will rule the galaxy, and we shall have peace.

Really, that was much, much, much better than it had to be. Or than I expected. (No spoilers follow.)

Uneven.God, was it uneven. But there was a good 25 minutes at the top where I felt charmed, rewarded, and happy to be there, and the feeling returned at random intervals throughout the remainder of the film. Ewan was lovely, and we got to witness the valiant struggles of actors laboring under Lucas' abysmal direction and dialogue that is both on-the-nose and betraying the tinnest of ears. The allegedly romantic scenes, in particular, I will carry to my grave. There was some good actor chemistry--particularly between Ewan McGregor and Hayden Christensen. Who actually managed to act around the terrible dialogue.

Spectacular visuals. Padme was not just soggy, but actively antithetical to the cause of women's lib. Her daughter must get all her guts from Bail Organa. And there was 50% too little Wookiee.

But the entire thing was made worthwhile for the mental image conjured by the following line:

"Good relations with the Wookiees have I."

Master Yoda, there is such a thing as too much information.

Further notes on Star Wars, now that it's not four AM: what is Roger Zelazny's Wixer doing in this movie? Poor giant gecko. I was totally into the giant gecko.

And Christensen made a much more appealing fallen angel than he had any right to, and actually bears a fairly striking resemblance to Mark Hamill from certain broody angles of profile, especially when backlit by gouts of lava.

And just don't get my inner science fiction writing going on the lava planet. That's all I ask.

Minimal metrics today, for I R dumb with sleeplack, and also hurried.
