"So then Bear went face down in the caterpillar roll--"

I had a grand day at convergence, including two panels, one on rejectomancy that more turned into a discussion of navigating the waters of publishing, and the other one blogging as literature that wandered into politics. I spent most of the morning and afternoon down in the atrium with B&I spread out on a tabel, wreaking great mischief upon it. And all will be well, and all will be well, and all manner of things will be well.

I've got about a quarter of the paper edit done, anyway. That's a good sign. And I think it's coming together nicely. The rest of the book is much better than that one scene that was giving me fits yesterday.

Liz wants the book broken into chapters, so that's part of the process. And another part is trying to cut around 20 pages to get it down to 150K MS word count--and then there's giving it a tighter structure, as in its currently form it's very improv jazz, and in its new incarnation, it's going to be more rigidly structured.

Also, still lots of actual rewriting going on.

Vive la mort, vive la guerre, vive la legion etranger!

In other news, I was seduced by the corset purveyor today. I was petting pretties, and the next thing I knew I was roped--with a tape measure--laced in, and going "Wow, it's almost like not having back pain due to boobs at all. I'll take a gross!"

It's very pretty, anyway, and fits like a glove.

After the second panel, I went to dinner with dlandon, elisem, mrissa, porphyrin, timprov, allocthon, and various family members of those worthies who are not lj-enabled. We sort of stuffed ourselves, and I can't remember when I've laughed so hard.

And Elise made me snarf. *g* Badly.

(no subject)

It's annoying that as I learn to write better, my old stuff refuses to retroactively repair itself to the new standard.

The good news is, I'm getting a ton of scaffolding out of this stuff. It's amazing how inarticulate some of this is. Seventeen words used where I needed three.

This is a good thing, because Liz also wants a bunch of stuff explained more patently that I more or less inclued very subtly in the first version. It's *in* there, but it's latent rather than patent. So I need space to do that in. (Assuming I can do it subtly enough to not have it suck a lot.)

B&I rewrite, day three

The good news is, it's easy to trim, because I have become a much more efficient writer since 2003.

The bad news is, it needs a lot of trimming. *g*

150,575 words MS word count, but that's with some chunks cut out that I need to put back in in different places. And I have a bunch of expositional bits to add. Still.

I finished typed revisions to chapter 2, and have commenced Chapter 3. Am on page 41 of a current 647, with 170 pages hand-corrected and a bunch of add-ins in a notebook and other files.
