Last night I dreamed about you. I dreamed that you lay dying.

The Carnival manuscript is here, so I'm officially back in the saddle again.

All I can think, looking at the line edits, is that I've somehow completely lost any ability I might ever have had to rub words together. Or balance a plot. Or handle exposition in a timely fashion.

Ah well. Thankfully, this is why I have an editor.

I guess this song is telling me that I need the damned dream sequences after all.

I suppose it's sort of a good sign at least in regard to my abilities to spot problems that the things that Anne, Jenn, and Peter pointed out as broken were, in large part, things that I had already known were broken (problems include--opacity of the political situation, atmosphere (by which I mean, the book has none), three or four kind of overstretched plot points, and a subplot that doesn't get as much resolution as I'd like.)

The not so good sign is that I tried to fix all of those things before I actually handed the book in, and apparently failed to make them any better than they were before.

I think I want a beer.

You know, if you aren't neurotic going into this writing gig, you will be when you're done.
