drive train _ netcurmudgeon

Well, that's that.

I spent the morning putting another 1500 words into "1796," which is now retitled "The Ladies," and I have to admit that repairing whatever is wrong with it further than that is beyond me. I suspect alternate history is just not my metier.

I am profoundly irritated with the story's lack of willingness to transcend my incompetence, but there you have it. It's as done as it's getting unless I wake up brilliant in the morning, or a brownie comes and fixes it for me.

As for me, I'm going to eat some veggie couscous with cheddar cheese and garlic on it, listen to the mix CD cpolk made me, and curl up on the sofa with a pot of tea and The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier and Clay and not come out until it's time to go to archery.

Next project: "Chatoyant." And then after that, the Dust proposal.

But not today.
