froud tapestry

It's a free fiction morning--

The very first issue of Coyote Wild is up, with my not-an-Arthurian fantasy, complete wth snarky clubfooted bard, an odd-eyed necromancer, undead armies, and every other sword and sorcery trope I could jam into 4000 words with a crowbar.

The magazine has quite a cast list:

# Abjure the Realm - Elizabeth Bear
# Association of the Dead - Jean Graham
# Behind the Mirror - Yoon Ha Lee
# Blood - Patricia Russo
# The Book of Nye - Adam Heskett
# Coyote Grins - Donald Powell
# Crow-Boy - Kurt D. Kirchmeier
# A Lesson In Flight - B.A. Tyler
# The Renascence of Memory - Amy Sterling Casil
# Summer Thunder - Sherwood Smith

Nonfiction:

# Laying Down the Rayguns: The Mundane Manifesto - Alasdair Stuart

Poetry:

# Peering into the Mechanics - Danny Adams
# The Snake Charmer Retires - Kristine Ong Muslim

And now, having survived the pronoun-free sex scene with rather more dignity than I had anticipated, I'm off to make Perceval eat stir-fried silkworm larvae.

I love my job.

and that's a wrap

The final chapter of "Lucifugous" (in which guns are drawn, and Jack reveals something we all suspected) is up at Subterranean Press. You can read the whole novella here

You can buy the forthcoming collection/picaresque/mosaic novel here. It's over a hundred thousand words in length, and includes two never-before published stories--"Chatoyant," a novelette, and "Lumiere" (appearing on the order form there as "Les Innocents," which was the working title) a novella, which between them comprise about 40,000 words of brand new content!

Think of the children!*

*this is scurrilous material, after all. You'll want to protect them by buying up as many copies as possible.

Progress notes for 16 January 2007

yeah, I must be edging up on 30K because I can feel myself on the edge of getting stuck. Middle of the book here we come, baby. Soon the bloom will be off the rose, and it'll be sitting on the sofa eating cheeze doodles in a sweaty wifebeater and hollering for another beer.

I love my writing partner.

Space Pirates in a LIVING SHIP!: $29.95
Watching truepenny type away merrily in Google Docs, as the story miraculously grows words all by itself: Free

The hideous inevitability of a Tiptreesque, Lovecraftian universe: PRICELESS.

(I can say this because I only wrote half of it, and I'm not talking about myself. This story is made out of pure fucking awesome.)

Um. And I think it needs a title. And like three more paragraphs.
