today, to bring the manuscript to 13,258. All of it plot, too, with a little bit of setting. This will need more setting on the revision, I can tell, but right now I am just trying to make myself get it done and stop spending five minutes twiddling every damned sentence I write.
Some of that was this morning, between 4:30 and 9:00 am (I got up early, because the smoke alarm in the hallway was malfunctioning again) and some of it was this evening between 5 and 8 pm, after I got back from Christmas dinner at my mom's place.
Anyway, I got to quota and the end of a scene (I like to end at the end of scenes, when it's possible, which is just another way in which I ignore all that helpful writing advice what helpful people give, because I hate stopping when I have bits and bobs of things to write floating in my head.) and I'm calling it a night and thinking about getting a sandwich.
I have a problem now, because very very soon I am really going to have to figure out this villain's motivation. Maybe if I get too stuck, I can take a day off and revise "King Pole, Gallows Pole, Bottle Tree," because I think after much thrashing and pondering, I know how to get the last bits of suck out of it now, and I really should send the dratted thing to ellen_datlow
before the moon freezes.
Or maybe I can be an extra-good writer, get my wordcount tomorrow morning, if I get up early, and then after gym and lunch I can do the revising. That would be a very productive Bear, that would.
