lion in winter broken because you're bri

yes i need you but i'll be damned before i'll say

I'm writing this while waiting for the last of the enchiladas to warm up so I can eat them for breakfast. Yes, breakfast enchiladas. If it horrifies you you don't have to watch. (The green sauce is out of a can, alas: Chaz has been letting the side down, lately.) In a minute, I'm going to go make coffee.

I discovered that there's a bunch of Ellen McIlwaine available as mp3s on Amazon, and have indulged myself in some of the better music of my childhood. Man, that woman can play guitar.

After that, the plan is to meet up with Alisa and The Jeff and head up to New York State to meet a caving friend of theirs to go climbing. I'm still feeling kind of physically bleh, but hey, maybe it will be an easier-rated gym than the home gym, and it's another state I will have climbed in! (Currently: Connecticut, Massachusetts, Wisconsin, Minnesota. I hope to add Texas next month. Man, between that, going out dancing, the Andrew Bird concert, and the proposed hiking excusrion, I am going to need so many different pairs of shoes for that trip, it's nonsensical.)

Part of the tired and crabby may be fighting off a bug, and I think part of it may also be blood sugar. I've been having one of those weeks where food seems like an awful lot of work, and I think I haven't been eating enough. So in addition to roadtrippage, today is all about the calories. Roadtrips and calories go well together! It's a win!

Still a bit cold here in the flat part of New England, but it's been a mild winter overall, and we got missed by the Deep Freeze Express that rolled through a bit north. So it's just wool-socks cold, not begging to die cold.

And on that note, I can smell the enchiladas, so it's time to make that coffee....

it's a good thing you don't know what i'm like because you probably wouldn't think much of me

We trekked up to the Albany Indoor Rockgym today to try it out and introduce a friend of Alisa's to the rockclimbing thing. It was fun: we wound up hanging out at the gym for about three hours and did a lot of climbing. Unfortunately, the gym itself was something of a disappointment: it's just a grigri and carabiner clip operation, and I'm spoiled by gyms which allow climbers to use real belay rigs. Also, none of the routes were rated, and they were badly enough designed and marked that it was pretty much impossible to tell what was supposed to be a route and what wasn't.

The actual structure of the gym was cool: lots of bays and corners and chimneys and cracks and so on, good stuff to play with, and I did get to play with a lot of it. It felt like pretty good exercise, at least, even if I did wish they had some rated routes to try my luck on.

I climbed six routes walls, tried a couple of others, and did some traversing. Good times, good times.

In news of fail, here's a good example of how to make sure you never work in this town again.

Poppy Z. Brite explains just what's going on over there, so I don't have to.

Dear aspiring writers: don't do that.

(I hope mroctober doesn't mind my linking this, but really, in what universe does anybody treat another human being the way twitboy there is treating him? It's pathetic and sad.)

I admit to missing Marc Warren and his abs, and the shiny Jaime Murray, and there's not been nearly enough Robert Vaughn so far. But Mickey and Ash are there for me, and I think the new kids will work out well. It's already bouncing back from the somewhat lackadaisical Season 4. Oh, Adrian Lester, never leave me again
