Teacup today: My mother's squid mug, which I liberated for moral support.
121750 / 120000 words. 101% done!
3000 words today, almost all of it devoted to going back and filling in stuff I had been waiting to have flashes of brilliance about. Well, the flashes of brilliance happened, and as a result I am at 100,000 MS words, 121750 manuscript words, and starting the process of being a bit overlength. Ahem.
This book has found a new and exciting way to be Zeno's Book. This one is coming up with stuff I have to go back and add to the middle to make the end make sense, and also to make the middle stronger and more interesting, and to set up stuff for Steles of the Sky, which is starting to shape up in my head with a vengeance.
Today I fell back in love with this book. It was a good boyfriend, the Ryan Gosling Meme of books. It was full of wonderful exciting ideas and cooperative and all like, "No honey, you go take a bath and I'll write this scene for you and then I'll rub your feet."
If only it could be like this all the time.
Sadly, this means that while I have achieved the contracted length, I have not actually gotten any closer to the end of the book, as the climax that I've been avoiding writing for three days is still just as unwritten.
There's nothing else left to do. And normally I can't write climaxes fast enough: they take off running downhill and eat my brain. This one is coy.
Well, tomorrow I will have to do that. And part of doing it means writing the second-most-awful thing in a world full of necromancers and authoritarian torture-states and hideous mutilating magic. You'd think I'd be raring to go.
words Word don't know: myrmecoleons, maned, strengthless, pincered, forwardmost
words I'm surprised Word do know: hypostyle
tyop: there is one who would like to clam that role.
Darling: An edge of membrane opened her cheek. She saw red spatter but felt no hurt.
Evolution of an image:
He felt himself weeping, the sting of hot water on a wind-chilled face.
Hot tears slid down wind-chilled cheeks. He did not dash them away.
Hot tears stung on wind-chilled cheeks. He did not dash them away.
Hot tears greased wind-chilled cheeks. Temur let them burn.
Ah, there we are.
