writing rengeek magpie mind

you go out at night with your headphones on. again.

I mentioned this briefly in the last post, and I think I'll mention it again, because I could not be more thrilled: Scott's handed in the final revisions on The Republic of Thieves, and its publication date is set for October 10th 2013 in the UK and October 8th 2013 in the US.

I know it's been a long wait, but it's really for reals happening now, and it would take the Heat Death of the Universe to stop it. I was actually in the room when he emailed the final manuscript in. (Yes, I am a lucky bitch. And my boyfriend is a genius. I noticed. And I'm so pleased and proud you'd think it was one of my own books.)

Hell, I want to hold a copy of this book in my hands just for the cover art.

That boy I like can write some, that's for sure.

In other and more immediate news, and speaking of being proud and pleased and writing it myself--I seem to have a book coming out too. My author copies of Shattered Pillars arrived on Tuesday with a thump against the porch. I have proof!

Actually, I have something beyond proof--I have actual copies!

I've been sniffing it ever since.

It goes on sale next Tuesday, the 19th. And I kind of wish I had time to enjoy it, but I'm on deadline for Metatropolis III: Electric Boogalee* currently. And that basically takes precedence over everything, especially since I'm writing something Highly Plotty and those Go Slow.

So back at it now.

*Actual title: Metatropolis III: Green Space, starring Jay Lake, Ken Scholes, Karl Schroeder, Mary Robinette Kowal, Seanan McGuire, and, er, me.

I cannot wait for your new book. It's coming out right around my birthday, and I am considering it the universe's Birthday Gift to Me. :-)

I'm pretty damn excited about the new Gentleman Bastards book too. As soon as the news broke today one of my friends emailed me about it in squeeful ALL CAPS. <3
So excited!
Everything about this post is my favorite thing about this post.

(I was a good girl and did not take a copy of Shattered Pillars from the Tor.com Pi Day party tonight. I preordered this, I told myself sternly as I held the beautiful hardback in my hand. Soon, soon it will be in my greedy little hands...)
Pi Day Party! And they had my books? Eeee. *g* My publisher loves me.
Oh yes. There was quite a large amount of pie, and also booze and nachos and nerdy people - aka everything was beautiful and nothing hurt. I'm looking forward to their 5th anniversary party this spring!

Your publisher definitely loves you. They had both Range of Ghosts and Shattered Pillars, and when Irene Gallo caught me stroking the cover of the latter longingly, she talked about how happy she was that they were doing so well.
Irene is wonderful, and she's given me fabulous covers.
Gorgeous art indeed...which somehow (to me anyway) has a taste of "The King in Yellow"
OMG, so excited! What nice news.
I so badly want your icon to be a Shadow Unit icon. *g*
Sadly, no. I made the icon in my first flush of Constantine (ok, realistically, SWINTON fandom) long before I learned about Shadow Unit. It's my mishearing of a line from the song Parachute by Guster:

Fell out of the sky
Cease it to be
Without a reply
Gravity fails me

I thought it applied well to specific instances of archangel problems.
Hee. if Tilda were brown, she'd make a pretty good Chaz. And I may have me a Tilda Lucifer icon or two as well...
..or two...

That's a nice cover.
Fantastic! I can't wait for both of these!
Congratulations to both you and Scott! Your covers are gorgeous--and I bet all the words are gorgeous too! :-)
Aww. *g*
Will either of these be available in Audio? Audiobooks let me read and work at the same time. OK, I only pretend to work, but my mouse is moving and I answer simple questions. I probably wouldn't pass the turing test, but most days my boss wouldn't either, so it's ok.
I know Shattered Pillars will be--from Recorded Books, with the same narrator as Range of Ghosts.

I'm just guessing Scott's book will, too. ;-)
Holy shit that cover is spectacular.

Actually, both of them are. Your books (or rather, your publishers' design departments) are kicking serious ass.
Donato is my new hero and I want to send him an Easter basket. He's AMAZING.

Scott's artist is Benjamin Carre, I think.

And the art departments are making the typeography pretty as well...

My god. Is that a woman facing the camera while a (presumed) man looks over his shoulder at it? I think the world may be spinning the wrong way on its axis!

I like it. :-D
A fully clothed woman. With two bloody swords.
Also, my love for your Fizzgig icon keeps me warm at night.

And yes, that cover just wins.
Also Also, the cover of Shattered Pillars has two brown people on it, and the female one is not sexualized.

It's almost like somebody is fucking paying attention.
Dare we hope?
