it's a great life, if you don't weaken

If I were a responsible novelist, I would be rewriting Bridge of Blood & Iron right about now instead of staring blankly at Whisky & Water. If I were a sane human being, I'd take the rest of the year off from writing and enjoy myself for a change. But the guilt gorilla gets to me when I do that.

On the other hand, I've got about 90 pp of W&W, and it's hitting the point where it doesn't hurt to stop and let one's subconscious chew on the book for a while. And there's no point in writing the sequel when the first book still isn't in publishable shape. So maybe the guilt gorilla is right, and it's time to get off my tuchus and start the Bridge rewrite.

Any day now, Bear.

Rewrites are a funny thing. They're not hard, precisely, once you know what has to be done. But they are fussy and fiddly and requiring of a good deal of mental attention, and the ability to hold an entire book in one's head all at once. Good trick, that.

Yes, it is.
