520 words on Scardown today, by the skin of my teeth

I was reading Robin Hobb today, and realizing again why I'm not as good as I should be, yet. But I learned something about how to write better, so that's okay.

Comments

Something Robin Hobb wrote about writing, or her fiction? Am curious because if you learned something from it, probably I would too. :)
Something specifically about her level of telling detail, the richness of her prose, and the way she lingers just a bit in the interesting spot and brings characters alive quite deftly.

Having spent years learning to take all the extranneous and useless detail--the fluff--out of my writing--I am now seeing the need to add detail and texture and grounding back in. I sometimes think writing is an endless struggle for equilibrium, and you're never done tuning it one way or the other.
