Good News, Good News

I'm very pleased to say that Andy Cox at Interzone has offered to publish my short story "When you Visit the Magoebaskloof Hotel, be Certain not to Miss the Samango Monkeys."

I'm very excited about this; The story's like an odd little Zen koan, and I'm happy it found somebody to love it.

Interzone is a UK magazine which has recently undergone something of an editorial reshuffling; so far, the change seems entirely for the better in terms of responsiveness, etc. Subscriptions or single issue purchases are available over here, if you wanted to help them out a little in these days of tight budgets and folding markets. It's a good market, and I don't just say that because they liked my weird little Zen koan story.

I don't know yet what issue it'll be in; Andy's comments seemed to indicate 'soon.' (The advantage of short short stories; they fill up layout holes that long short stories don't. *g*)

My freakish streak of being able to predict the deaths of celebrities by mentioning them in a more or less peripheral fashion in a work of fiction continues. Past victims include Stuart Adamson (Formerly of Big Country), Dr. Robert L. Forward, and Julia Child. Now, RIP Johnny Ramone. But not too much peace, okay, dude?

In other news, happy slightly belated Rosh Hashana to my Jewish friends, and don't forget that Sunday is National Talk Like A Pirate Day!

Arrr!

Confidential to ACUS folks... I just discovered that the next Survivor series is set on Vanuatu. Alert the President-in-Anticipation!

Congrats on the sell! It sounds like the story has been adopted by kind parents.
thankyew!
Hey, cool news on the sale to the revamped Interzone. Maybe we'll be ToC-mates -- I've got a novellette due to come out from there soon (which got bumped from the first issue of Andy's new reign as editor).

Great title.
It's be cooool to be TOCmates!
Depends on how it pays, tovarisch. *g*

Ack.

So glad I don't run this con anymore. ;)
*g* Scary, isn't it?

Especially since I'm quarter-seriously looking into becoming an island bum expatriate these days. *g*
Congrats! I love Interzone, it's a wonderful zine.
Conga rats are dancing in delight!

I'm personally amused the Talk Like a Pirate Day comes in the middle of High Holidays this year. (Not that it affects me — I'm the shaygetz in the ointment, as I like to say to my in-laws.)

Amusing Erev Rosh Hashanah incident: Partway through the service, the rabbi stopped and apologetically explained that her daughter had left the shofar at home and would hopefully be back with any moment now. Yes, any moment. Um, okay, we'll skip this part and come back. And they did — and later a somewhat embarrassed woman who looked not quite twenty blew it well before shrinking back into the audience.

There are two gendered words and number that make that a really cool story.

How long have you been drinking off that anecdote?

You know, raised Pagan as I was (I claim I'm Nevada's only recovering Pagan), I had to read the story twice before I understood why it was amusing. *g*
danke!
Congratulations on the sale!!

And just don't mention our boys by their real names, okay? I think your magic only works when you do that.
I really need to make that "My fandom runs with a limp" icon, don't I?

I would never do such a thing. We like our spies intact. *g* Besides, I think that's too direct a reference for the mojo to kick in.

Interzone!

CONGRATULATIONS!

I've heard nothing but good things about Interzone since the editorial change. A lot of people I know who'd been frustrated with them for a long time (almost all on my side of the Atlantic) have recently become converts again.

Re: Interzone!

Which side of the puddle are you on?

And yeah, the regime change seems to have given the pub a real boost.
Congratulations! Since I'm here in the UK, I'll look out for that issue. :)
ooo! Green Man icon! *luffs*
Congrats on the sell!

So tell me more about Dubya...

Okay, not a celeb, but surely it's worth a try.
*g* Well, there is a joke in Hammered, but it's pretty subtle.

Is it that time of year again already? Man, I haven't got anything ready. The pirate-cake is still waiting to be made, the pirate-cards are still waiting to be written, and I only started putting the pirate-decorations up last night. Sometimes, I really hate the holiday season.

Oh, and congrats on the IZ sale. :)
Props on the Interzone sale! Cool mag.
Woo woo Interzone!!

I'm a recent addition to your readership -- saw your name on some blog or other and added ya. Reading about what selling writers are working on is a big inspiration to me.

In other news, I love your emotion icons...!
Welcome in, and thank you *g*
Congrats, and great title! Since I'm on the little island side of the puddle, I might just get me a copy. :)

Sunday is National Talk Like A Pirate Day!

Arr! Me hearties! I'll make sure fellow pirates do the same or they'll be walkin' the plank and meetin' davy jones' locker, arr!
