Moment of silence for the end of an era:

Gary Kasparov retired yesterday.

Get married, write a book, and go into Russian politics.

Yeah, that should keep him busy for a while.

You heard this on NPR, too?

He isn't stopping playing chess, just competitively, though.

And I loved the little bit of "Yes" they played at the end of the piece (I've seen all good people)

ABC news, actually.
I believe Iceland offered him citizenship and/or a passport.
I believe you're thinking of Bobby Fischer.

Cold Heart

So, saw you were listening to Martin Barre and said, hey, haven't listened to that album in ages. So I fired up the MP3s.

And then, when track four started, I noticed I'd left the MP3 slowdowner setting on, pretty high so that I could follow what notes Peter Horan and Fred Finn play on "Duke of Leinster". Guess the earlier tracks were fast enough my brain didn't register they were playing at 66% or so of normal speed!

Re: Cold Heart

*grin* Okay, that made me laugh out loud.

Or maybe you run 33% faster than mortal men. Your superspeed is finally manifesting!

Re: Cold Heart

Nah, if I were faster than normal, the difference would have been even more apparent.

Quite possible I am slower than normal men; but I don't think there's much of a superhero career in that. ("Slow Guy -- he's as fast as 2/3rds of a normal man!")

Re: Cold Heart

Maybe a career in the Tickverse. Possibly.
I've been following this on Mosnews for a few weeks. It'll be interesting to see how he takes on Putin. I hadn't seen the getting married part. Good for him. He deserves some life away from a board.

Also following Fischer's weird tale. These chess masters are a warped and quite fascinating bunch.

It will be interesting, won't it?
