Reason for stopping: Only three pages today, but that's the end of the 3500-word scene I've been working on since last week, so I'm calling it a day and having some lunch
Mammalian Assistance: Marlowe says hello
Stimulants: lime passion tea
Exercise: walking and gothercise later

Tyop du jour: n/a
Darling du jour: His apartment was on the third floor of a gaudy, peeling converted Victorian with a practiced sense of irony.
Books in progress, but not at all quickly: Ed Sanders, Tales of Beatnik Glory; Neal Stephenson, Quicksilver
Interesting research tidbit of the day: n/a
Other writing-related work: taxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxes. Drat it all.

So, a little math to comfort myself today. I want to finish Whiskey & Water and Carnival this year. (And, you know, it wouldn't suck to sell them either.) Combined, they come to ~280,000 words, of which I have 60,299 words written, more or less. So I have 219,701 words to write before December.

There are 267 days remaining in the year. So I have to write 823 words a day, and as long as I'm ahead of that curve, I'm doing just fine. So far this year, I'm averaging 770 words a day--and that counts a very long vacation where I essentially didn't write at all.

Sometimes, the guilt gorilla needs a little lecture on prioritizing.

You are a writing machine!

There was a time a few years ago when I was going about 1000 words a day and I really enjoyed it (I'm a better writer when I write fast). Working on short stories, though, which I am right now, I am happy with 200 words a day. However, I've also discovered that when I teach three nights a week (which I've been doing for the past couple of months) and work full time and track on Sundays, I'm lucky if I get 200 words a week :-(

But I should soon be back to teaching two nights a week and for some reason that one extra free night seems to make a big difference. On the other hand, I'm fixing up my house to sell and looking at new houses....

you have, yanno, other stuff to worry about....
"Rain" is one of those wanna stick on repeat loop for a while, every time I hear it. I do like that song, and that voice.

Yeah. It's earwormy.
She usually has one or two earwormy songs on every album -- "Every Little Bit," "Useless Desires," "Wiggly Finers," "One Big Love."

Now I'm trying to imagine what "Wiggly Finers" would be about. And how bouncy it would be. (Stupid tyop for fingers, of course.)

That top statement reminds me of the line from They Might Be Giants Song "Anna Ng". It goes: "I don't want the world, I just want your half."
"I saw this painted on a bridge:"

So true. *g*
