If I'm a monster, then I'm a willing one.

It's D-Day +60.

John Scalzi on publicists, publishers, making sausage, and--synchronistically--hot dogs.

I hit upon a metaphor today that pleased me. Writing short stories is like watchmaking. Every bit must be finely machined, take up no more space than it needs to do its job, and move precisely in counterpart with all the others--and it must be necessary.

Novels have room for cuckoos and dancing waiters and great big decorative pendulums and so forth.

Also: GO! opportunitygrrl!

I like that metaphor.
It's actually D-Day +61. Last year was D-Day +60.
Did I mention I failed math?

Ha!

I actually almost used D-Day for a "This Day in History" post today, but decided not to.

Oddly enough, my wife (gnomi) is currently in the middle of reading the Stephen Ambrose book on D-Day. We've had to swap copies from the library quite a few times.
If that's CITIZEN SOLDIER(S?), I have read it and it is wonderful.
Actually, it's just called D-DAY by Stephen Ambrose.
Ok. CS is sort of a sequel, and covers events from just after D-Day to the Battle of the Bulge and the end of the war.
foom!
An LJ for the lander...that is so cool :)
