This, in a nutshell, is why I don't use the status bar. I'd have to keep fiddling with it.
*g* Yeah, I know what you mean. On the other hand, I'm figuring a 7% error in guessing the book length isn't really ALL that bad.
No, it's not, not at all. But if I was aiming for something and then hitting it turned out not to matter, that would frustrate me.
*g* See, I look at this as hitting it, more or less. It's like the heaving a watermelon at a target thing. Okay, maybe I didn't hit the black ring... but I think I'll get the red one--

SO it's still pretty satisfying.
Oh yeah, I know you're eventually hitting both goals, in a sense: both that word count and the end of the book. Still, it would frustrate me to have a number that turned out to be wrong. Different strokes.
*nod* I know exactly what you mean. I've discovered I need some kind of metric like this or by 80K I'm going "I've been doing this for months and it will NEVER END because I've made NO PROGRESS!" but I can also see how it would be the opposite for other people...
Nobody else was using them!
