The stars of the sea are the same for the land.

How long do you suppose it will be before somebody comes up with a means of divination by spam sender name and title?

Turns out Liz wants the books to come in around 150K MS word count rather than manuscript format. Which is infinitely preferable, really, and means I'm nearly there, since B&I is running around 155K MS word and this one's going to wind up being about the same.
Reason for stopping: End of chapter. SFRA. Book hate of the 3rd kind.
Mammalian Assistance: none
Stimulants: Ginger ale, ginger tea
Exercise: none
Mail: nomail
Today's words Word don't know: hooved. gauntleted
Last minute plot twist I wan't prepared for: Hey! Who told the archangel he could be merciful? Damn, I think I just painted myself into a happy ending....
Tyop du jour: none
Darling du jour: none
Books in progress, but not at all quickly: Kristine Smith, Code of Conduct; Richard Overy, Russia's War: A History of the Soviet War Effort, 1941-1945
Interesting research tidbits of the day: none
Other writing-related work: are we *there* yet?

Sort of off topic, but I love seeting the Dar William's quotes in your subject lines. Always give me a jolt of "why is that familiar?" when it's not something familiar to most people I know.

Out of curiosity, how are you currently figuring word count? Using the manuscript page/number of words method?
Ha! I was just thinking "Bear is the only other person I know who listens to Dar". Guess I was wrong. :P
My taste run from popular to obscure, but The Green World is in my top favorite CDs ever :D
I prefer Beauty of the Rain, marginally.

Me too. :)

word count

Roughly speaking, there are three ways to arrive at word count:

1) Assume a certain number of words per line and a certain number of words per page. Rules of thumb for this varies. "The nice thing about standards is that there are so many to choose from."

2) Actually counting the words, rather than estimating. This is sometimes done for flash fiction, but for some reason most novelists don't use it.

3) Have a computer program do the word count -- either the word processor, or a specialized program. No two programs will give the same word count, by the way.

Re: word count

And you are correct. What MS word counts as words, as opposed to the traditional manuscript word count of ~250 words per page, on a page formatted to 25 lines per page, 60 characters per line. (My pages actually run 24 lines, 64 characters a line, but it more or less comes out in the wash.)
What are the book hates of the first and second kinds?

"Beginning" and "middle" *g*
Shades of the King of Hearts' instructions to the White Rabbit.

Oh good. That's the nicer way to be surprised. (Like a happy ending on W&W ::grins::)

With the amount of SPAM going around I won't surprise me that there are folks who are beating the odds already. Etrails used to work just fine. Perhaps when we catch the spammers we can try that older technique again.
- Ooo, I bet the folks who own that trademark really hate this term (oops, I digress)

Entrails - NOT Etrails

I hate spelling errors.

We speak tyop here....
