So I just figured out why my brain thinks Carnival is titled Carnival, and will accept no substitutes.

car·ni·val (kär'nə-vəl) n. : The period of merrymaking and feasting celebrated just before Lent. [Italian carnevale, from Old Italian carnelevare: carne, meat (from Latin caro, carn-) + levare, to remove (from Latin levare, to raise).] lit. "farewell to the flesh"

You know, my brain *could* let me in on its clever little puns before I have 40K of book written.

But then, where would be the fun?

In other news, I have determined that I am, in fact, deep in Middle Of The Book, and that's why I don't feel like working on this damned thing. But work on it I must. And really, I only have about 70K left to write.

Soonest begun, first ended.

Indeed. It does make things more interesting. Along the lines of the character who waited until halfway through book 2 to tell me something important that effects book 1.

In other news, 90 pages into Hammered, and enjoying it thoroughly.

Glad to hear the generally good news about the pup.
Yeah, that thing.

Even harder when book one is in print. :-P Glad you are enjoying it, by the way. *g*
Cool. And if for some reason the marketing dingbats want a different title, you could always use Farewell to the Flesh. Yum. :)

And many hugs to both you and the hounds, from another dog-owner.
But "Farewell to the Flesh" is a lousy title. *g* Unless one is writing a horror novel. I'd probably go with "The Festival of Meat" if I *had* to change.

Although Bantam's been good to me so far. title-wise. And AFAIK, the marketing material in the back of Worldwired says "Carnival," so I think I'm stuck with it. It was only ever supposed to be a working title, but it got stuck that way....

And thank you. The dogs hug back.
And carnival is one of those 'world turned upside down' times, too--y'know, when fools become kings and women dress up as men and pigs ride in wheelbarrows...

Bakhtin is a great source on carnival, if you're interested.
Thanks!
