noted without comment, because anything I have to say is unprintable.

I predicted that. Just yesterday, when someone said 'Bush and Co is trying to find a way to save their faces" I said Bush might be stumbling about looking for someone to blame, but Cheney and the scumbags will be lo0king for a way to make a profit--and here it is.
Wow, I still had a little non-cynical part of my soul that wasn't expecting something that shameless.

Don't worry, it's dead now and its suffering is over.
You can bury it next to the little part of my soul, although I had to bury that a while back and its grave is now mossy.
Yeah, they'll find a way to make a profit out of people's suffering. Once again. AARGH!!!
The second story gets a similarly unprintable response, and that's because I was called in for an interview at Dresser late last year. I can't believe that any company can be run that incompetently without someone taking the CEO out back and shooting him like Old Yeller.

Jesus. There really are no depths too low for these people...
Every time I see the name of Hal..... I want to go get the Listerine.

No, Mr. Bush, you just stay the course. It's not your fault that 30 percent of New Orleans lives in poverty or that tens of thousands had no transportation to get out of town. C'mon, they're black! I mean, it's not like this happened to Kennebunkport. Can you imagine leaving white people on their roofs for five days? Don't make me laugh! Race has nothing -- NOTHING -- to do with this!

You hang in there, Mr. Bush. Just try to find a few of our Army helicopters and send them there. Pretend the people of New Orleans and the Gulf Coast are near Tikrit.
Holy Crap!

(I hope that's printable)
Jesus H. Christ on a pogostick.
Juggling weasels, in fact.
I'll let my new userpic speak for me. (I saw this first from james_nicoll and haven't come up with anything wittier to say yet.)

(banging head against wall)
I knew it. I unprintably new it. Bastards.
Ummmmm.

I have the feeling I'll be decidedly alone in this opinion, but here goes.

SOMEONE has to do the cleanup. That means private firms have a part to play, unless you want the whole burden to be borne by governments and volunteers.

Read that carefully. Halliburton is getting the job to clean up naval bases. They're a big defence contractor; it stands to reason that they're a decent choice to do it. They'd presumably know the procedures needed to work with the military, have the requisite clearances, etc.

And KBR was awarded the contract last year.
It's just that the timing is so exquisitely bad. Couldn't they have announced another no-bid contract with a *different* Friend of Bush first, something more oriented toward the non-military parts of the region?
Well, that was predictable.

Man, you can't make this stuff up.
Ah, the final insult.
