I wish I was as good at naming stuff as H. Beam Piper.

Reason for stopping: quota
Mammalian Assistance:  Sick mastiff. Sigh. A giant dog with a delicate digestion is not in all ways an ideal house pet.
Stimulants: seltzer, Constant Comment
Exercise: none
Mail: There's a somewhat mixed review of Hammered in the NYRSF, for those who want to run right out and pick up a copy. And I just heard that it's gone back for a third printing.

Also, my ink came. Yay! Ottoman Rose, I feel so girly...

Today's words Word don't know: zareba, enkang accelerant
Words I'm surprised Word do know: kraal
Tyop du jour: n/a
Darling du jour: "This Cross pen is the sort of implement you could stab somebody through the heart with, and then write out his death warrant with." Which was in an email, not in fiction, but I loved it too much not to share.
Books in progress, but not at all quickly: Richard Overy, Russia's War: A History of the Soviet War Effort, 1941-1945;  Ladislas Farago, The Game of the Foxes; Leigh Richards, Califia's Daughters;
Mean things: Oh no, Brer Fox, not the briar patch
Other writing-related work: n/a
Interesting tidbits: Science proves what horse people could have told you last week--95% of thoroughbreds are descended from the Darley Arabian.; zarq on Al Gore and Barbara Bush. I've always rather liked Al Gore.

There are bright spots in the middle of all the awfulness. A local Las Vegas company, Harrah's Entertainment (the owners of Caesar's Palace, the Rio hotel, and a number of Gulf-area casinos) which was hit hard by the hurricane, are providing their employees in the affected states with 90 days pay and benefits, no questions asked, and also sending a substantial amount of money for hurricane relief. I'm usually pretty snide about the gaming industry, but that's a gesture that deserves a moment of acknowledgment.

A complicated and many-sided tale of financial malfeasance centers on the assets of singer Leonard Cohen, who appears to have been taken to the cleaners by his personal manager.
