wen_spencer passes along market information for Baen's new fantasy magazine, Baen's Astounding Stories, which they say:

Without trying to copy them, we want the magazine to have the same flavor as Astounding/Analog and Galaxy (along with IF and Worlds of Tomorrow) did in their heyday.

Nice work, if you can get it.

Man, I miss Galaxy. Or maybe I just miss Roger Zelazny. Either is possible.

Comments

I met Zelazny at the first Fourth Street Fantasy Convention, where he was Guest of Honor.

He sneaked behind the concom's backs, and paid his own hotel bill. (Or so I'm told; Steve Brust would know for sure.)
what the heck is an "astounding slush conference"?
It's probably a newsgroup on the Baen's Bar news server. (Um, bar.baen.com, port 119, protocol: NNTP. And there's a web interface for usenet illiterates.)
Hmm. I'm trying to decide how I feel about these places that keep popping up and saying they want to have the same feel as X magazine from the Golden Ages and I'm leaning towards "not so hot."

Maybe I'm just bitter 'cause I'm not astounding. Oh, well.
I find it annoying that there won't be a new Zelazny book every few years. One day, he and I will have a discussion about this "dying" thing. Seriously misguided career move, that.

One of my great regrets is that I never had the chance to meet Mr. Zelazny. His work influenced me heavily, and made me want to not only write, but be a good writer.

When was the heyday again?
