Losing the star without a sky
Losing the reasons why
You're losing the calling that you've been faking
And I'm not kidding

[19:12] matociquala: Your problem is that you have not accepted the Truth.
[19:12] cpolk: the Truth.
[19:13] matociquala: The Truth is that this book will be broken.
[19:13] matociquala: Just like every goddamned book you ever write.
[19:13] matociquala: They are all broken now, and they will be broken forever afterwards.
[19:13] cpolk: yes. i keep telling myself that but I keep wailing that I don't want it to be broken, wah wah fucking wah!
[19:13] matociquala: And once you start to sell them, they will be published broken
[19:14] matociquala: and people will notice.
[19:14] cpolk: and they will pick on you.
[19:14] matociquala: And people will import broken into them that's not even native grown broken.
[19:14] matociquala: And so what.
[19:14] matociquala: Because you have to write the fucking broken book.
[19:14] cpolk: and my books are going to be broken by PTSD.
[19:15] matociquala: And then you have to write the next broken book.
[19:15] matociquala: And the one after that.
[19:15] matociquala: And you will know they are broken.
[19:15] cpolk: because That's my damage. it's official. the shrink said so.
[19:15] matociquala: And it doesn't matter if you wait a MILLION BILLION JILLION years.
[19:15] cpolk: did you hear my writers are just like serial killers theory?
[19:15] matociquala: The book will be broken whenever you write it.
[19:15] matociquala: Nope.
[19:16] cpolk: serial killers operate out of a need to complete themselves
[19:16] cpolk: and so do writers.
[19:16] matociquala: So putting it off just means that you don't get around to writing the book after it, which might be less broken.
[19:16] matociquala: Yeah, I think you're right.
[19:17] cpolk: serial killers set up their crimes in a ritualized fashion, touching the elements that have meaning for them, and go through it to complete
[19:17] cpolk: and so do writers.
[19:17] cpolk: serial killers never get it right, and so they do it over and over until they die or get caught.
[19:17] cpolk: writing's not illegal, so the writer is dooooomed.
[19:18] matociquala: Crazy is doing the same thing over and over expecting a different result.
[19:18] cpolk: Writers is nuts.
[19:18] cpolk: it's bloody awful. let's have another.
[19:18] matociquala: Pass the scotch.
[19:18] matociquala: *blogs*

[20:17] matociquala: kateelliott, quite accidentally, has me contemplating a Christian metaphysical reading of "The Passionate Shepherd to His Love."
[20:17] katallen: (see literary... ::grins:: )
[20:18] katallen: oh?
[20:18] matociquala: She [in the context of possibly titling a novel about Marlowe The Dead Shepherd] pointed out that shepherds came with a boatload of Christian symbolism, and I was "Well, it's a reference in AYLI to TPS before quoting 'Hero and Leander'" and then halfway through hitting "post" the penny dropped.
[20:18] katallen: ah...
[20:19] matociquala: Because, you know, um, Kit was a divinity student. It's not like he'd do that on accident.
[20:19] cpolk: I am laughing at you!
[20:19] cpolk: now git writing.
[20:19] matociquala: LOL
[20:19] matociquala: I have to finish this freaking fight scene first!
[20:19] katallen: heh
