Aside.

Some of you will be interested to know, by the way, that Canterbury Cathedral is apparently harboring a dormant Dark Young of Shub-Niggurath.

Or two.

Whoooooaaaaaa....

Between that and the ledger covered in human skin found in Leeds, I think someone's Call of Cthulhu game has gotten out of hand.

hahaha...scary!
Iah! Fatagh!
Ia, ia... *senseless gibbering*

-- Steve used to work for RAFM... which fed his lead habit for a while. :)
heh. *g*

Looks just like, doesn't it?
Indeed. Makes me think that ol' HP looked to one of those trees (what species?) for inspiration. Hey, whatever works...

-- Steve fondly remembers using an over-aged potato as inspiration for an alien in an RPG.
omfg. Totally.
Shh. it's napping.
Those are some sinister trees.
FTHAGN!

Wow, this is awesome. Consider this LJ entry added to my Memories list.

Best LiveJournal entry I've seen in the past 7 days! =^D
It's either a Dark Young or Shub's dreaded arboreal cousin---Shrub-Niggurath!
"Whan that Aprille, with h -- O GOD O GOD MY EYES PUT A BULLET IN MY HEAD NOW HAWKINS I CANNOT GO BACK TO THE WORLD AFTER BEING BLASTED WITH THIS GRIM SIGN OF MAN'S INSIGNIFICANCE DO IT NOW HAWKINS I SAID DO IT NOW AND BURN THAT TERRIBLE BOOK"
Aiee! Brilliant!

Here, feed them a cookie. :-)
*loff*
No, that's Chartres.
Both of those shots should be near the Cathedral. The second one I *know* is--we stood under the tree for awhile arguing about what type it was. *g*
Oh, the trees, sure, but when it comes to Great Old Ones lurking Beneath, Chartres leaves Canterbury in the dust.

The trees in Canterbury are outriders of the Invasion.
Oh, sure. I believe you on that front.
Canterbury is one of my all-time favorite places in the world. Invaders and all. (Also Cambridge--did the MA(Cantab.)--King's chapel, aaaahhh.)

Chartres I love but it creeps me out. There's Dark Pagan there and no mistake--hardly any Christian at all, even with the cathedral pushed in like a stopper on Whatever is trying to get up from below.

Barking up the wrong...

One of them is indeed from the cathedral grounds (see close up: here (http://www.flickr.com/photos/andrewmbutler/128095580/)), but the other one is almost certainly in the Westgate Gardens (see close ups at here and indeed there (http://www.flickr.com/photos/andrewmbutler/59994782)).

Hoping that HTML doesn't look too nasty...

Belated thanks for lunch, by the way; I remembered correctly just after I'd ordered that I was to be fed that night but it didn't happen until 10.30pm (in part thanks to a power cut caused by soup). It's just as well I ate heartily.

Cheers

Re: Barking up the wrong...

H'mm, it didn't exactly work how I hoped... but I think the URLs are there. (so much for preview)

Re: Barking up the wrong...

Well, a good thing we did some eating, then. Besides, five hours of walking burns calories.....

Thanks for the photos!
Good lord, that's impressive.
spooky, aren't they?
