Progress notes for 2 July 2006:

Undertow

New Words:  3,014
Total Words: 74,128 / 86,750
Pages: 347
Deadline: August 1
Words per day to meet deadline: 448
Reason for stopping: Not stopping, just recording.

Nothing left but the derring-do and the denouement.

Stimulants:  Blue Lady tea, two beers, a lot of water, and some bread and cheese.
Exercise: none
Mail: nomail
Today's words Word don't know: unpatchable, cosmologic
Words I'm surprised Word do know: cosmological, squirrelly

Mean Things: Just shattered most of André's fondly held illusions, and committed an atrocity.
Tyop du jour: André saw the ringlike shadows move under her sin.
Jerry-rigging: Got one of the scene-bits I wrote-ahead weeks or months ago to plug into the narrative. Yay! Unfortunately, I also realized that I was working way too hard to get the caper plot to work as a foreground element, so I have backgrounded it and foregrounded the intrigue, and the book's balance feels much better to me now. There's still a caper, but it was in danger of becoming a Surprise! Ending!, and since twenty times out of twenty-one, those sort of suck, I switched it up and did something a little more Maltese Falcon.

Books in progress:
Martin Cruz Smith, Stallion Gate; Jane Austen, Pride & Prejudice
